Should I get rid of my Thinkpads?

Coreman... precisely... except Lenovo is not fixing the T42 at their cost, but at mine - and if you google for T42 overheat and radeon you'll see that I'm not alone.

Christopher - your examples are silly and offpoint. Sure, people could jam plugs in the wrong receptacle... that has nothing to do with the issue at hand. Neither does spyware or anything else you mentioned. If people ABUSE a product that's one thing, but the simple fact is that a product should be engineered to deal with how people actually use it. If I can't pick the thing up using one hand (and that is a typical use case) without damaging the mobo then it fails this test. Mind you, I'm not carrying it distances like this... I'm just moving it from my lap to the couch, etc. All of this is doubly galling given Lenovo's positioning of the Thinkpad as a durable business class machine...

Anyway, this is moot... I'm typing this on my new Macbook.

What're the specs on your MacBook? I was looking at one at the Apple store a couple days ago. The black MacBook kind of reminds me of a ThinkPad, although it could use a red TrackPoint.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!

I bought the black Macbook with everything. $1599 gets you:

2Ghz Core Duo processor
80G drive
1G RAM (DDR667)
1280x900 screen.
Wifi (B and G)
Bluetooth

Initial battery life is about 4 hours, but we'll see how that goes. So far I like it, but he keyboard is very different from the Thinkpad and I do miss the trackpoint. I would not have gotten this if it wasn't able to run Windows in a VM or dual boot config as I consult a bit and occasionally might need to run Windows programs. As it is, I can use Parallels to run XP or Linux in a VM alongside OS X.

Feel... it feels as solid, maybe a bit more so, than my thinkpad. No flex, no squeaks or creaks. Very light ~ 4 lbs I'd guess.

Happy to hear you made your decision.

My specialty is accepting donated used ThinkPads from unhappy owners... send me a PM and we'll arrange to get it of your sight...

Hey for $1200 it's yours...

And, frankly, some of this was me scratching the New Gadget Itch...

All - thanks everyone for your input, thoughts and advice. Even those of you with whom I disagreed.... thanks for taking the time.

Sheesh... pay for it?...

OK, OK, true confessions, they have me on video entering the Apple store and looking at a Black Mac Book....

Since this is a ThinkPad site, I have omitted my PowerBooks from the signature line below... :P

When I bought my brand new T42, it came with a 1-year warranty. I chose this route to save some money (at the time of purchase anyway). If you look at Tabook, you will see models with 3-year and models with 1-year warranties.
