NTFS Problems !!!
NTFS Problems !!!
Hi,
I buy a new IBM T60 T2300 and I have some problems with MasterFileTable in Ntfs...
Some time while I work on my notebook the structure of the file and directory is damaged and when I restart the pc the utility chkdsk start and delete file corrupted and modify the file attributes.
So each time I start my T60 I lose file, directory, rights on folder, etc...
I reinstall S.O. and software for 5 times with IBM Recovery and I try to reinstall all from WinXp Cd and download driver from ibm website. But nothing, same problem!!!
I contact the IBM supports and they have changed the motherboard after to have controlled the existence of one anomaly.
Now after this change I have same problems... I changed the Hdd, Ram but nothing to do.
Anyone have the same problem or tell me any solutions ??? Thanks and Sorry for my english....

NTFS is generally a trouble-free disk system. It works *very* well, and has done for years and years.
So if you changed the motherboard, the memory, and the hard drive and reloaded the operating system, then you must be doing something yourself to damage the file system.
NTFS does not need to be maintained or mucked with in any way except to defrag it occasionally.

Format your HDD, and do a clean install of Windows XP, that is without using the Recovery CD's or the Predesktop Area recovery.
If you don't have the Windows XP CD, you can burn the folder i386, present in your C: Root, before burning search the web to make it bootable ('Make Windows XP CD bootable')
Then use Nero and burn the files and you boot your laptop using that CD.
If the problem still persists, then I doubt I cannot do anything to help you. NTFS is reliable. There must be something wrong with your Recovery CD's or HPA

People can always do whatever they wish, but you absolutely, in spades, and in triplicate, do NOT need to do a clean install to get NTFS to work.benottomex wrote:Format your HDD, and do a clean install of Windows XP, that is without using the Recovery CD's or the Predesktop Area recovery.

I do buy that the recovery CD's may be faulty or may have been installed in a faulty manner.
To the original poster: Try to run the recovery CD's and at the first (DOS) screen where the recovery is asking to procede, break out with ESC then F3 to quit.
At X:> type fdisk and delete all the partitions. Do not restart. Type fdisk /mbr. Then restart the machine and try recovering again.

It sounds like you may be infected with some kind of virus. Your O.S. install disks or some other program that you're re-installing could be in media that's infected.
Once we had a virus that we shouldn't get rid of in our company. This was in the days of floppy disks, and it turned out that our brand new floppies, shrink-wrapped from Office Depot, each had a copy of the virus.
I would slick your computer and re-install with fresh media. Also, scan your system for viruses. Norton and TrendMicro each have free on-line virus scanners.

Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.
The operative word is "after some days". It seems that the whatever causes the problem gets re-introduced systematically after the system has been restored to a working state.
The hard disk might be faulty (full surface diagnostics would probably show it, and the same fault is unlikely after replacing the hard disk). If the hard disk is not faulty, it is more likely that there is some malware: virus, rootkit, etc., or a rogue or misconfigured application at work. For example, some malware might be detected by a security application but a kernel-level security application cannot quite get rid of it and is damaging the file system in the process. Or some piece of malware might find itself blocked partway as it tries to infiltrate the file system.
You might try the sticky topics in the "help I think my system is compromised" security forum at www.dslreports.com for advice on how to do basic detection for this kind of problem.

Hi, Thanks to ALL !!!
I have tried to:
1. Format HDD and remove all partitions and reinstall from my WinXp Sp2 CD (ActionPack Microsoft Original). Download the drivers and utility from ibm website. Install Mcafee Enterprise 8 with patch 11 and engine 5100. Microsoft Update, .Net framework 1 and 2, Visual Studio 2005, Sql Express 2005, Microsoft Office 2003 Professional. All from Original CD Microsoft. Installa Acronis 9.1 workstation and backup all on External Hdd Usb 2.0 .
It's OK. After some day Windows Tooltips show me NTFS Error...
2. Change HDD with another Hitachi same model of original. Recover from IBM CD Recovery ( they tell me, 7cd) and after I install my software to develop (the same of point 1). It's OK. After some day Windows Tooltips show me NTFS Error...
3. I tried to give the acronis backup (point 1) to my friend with the same notebook (when I bought new notebook I have order two t60) and he works well without problem. The same backup on my notebook have the problem.
The support that has controlled my notebook for a month has found problems in the motherboard that changed, while the hdd was ok after the diagnostics.
Now, I don't think that a malware, virus, or other have damaged the file system and not even clean the partition, beacuse when I change Hdd with a new Hdd and Format and Install from Microsoft CDs. These CD work well, because I install another desktop pc and it's ok.
could be some flat calbe of connection of hdd?
Thanks

End your complication by calling IBM
the problem of yours sucks, never heard of that situation before.
could be a damage in your IDE connector o some other funky reactions your mobo has with hard drives.
