#1 Post by dorin » Tue Sep 19, 2006 8:49 am

Hi to everyone,

i need some help in chosing what drive shall i buy for my x40 (to use with the adaptor in the x40 docking station)

searched on the net and i found out there are 2 options of 2.5" 7200 drives : udma/100 or sata/150 drive

which is the difference and which one will work in the ultraslimbay adaptor?

thanks alot for you help!

dorin

ps: also if you sell a 7200 drive please let me know! thanks

You want a UDMA/100 PATA HD, such as the Hitachi 7K60 or 7K100.

You cannot use a Serial ATA (SATA) HD!

Check the Marketplace here in the Forum for HD offerings from BrentPresley.

perfect! so udma/100! the pata ending is by default i assume, right? haven;t seen 'pata' on any if the items i searched online.

currently no one is selling any 7200 hdd. i want to use it in office as main drive, heard its possible, and to see how an x40 would act with an 7200hdd.

thanks,

dorin

7K100s are readily available -- have been running my x31 with one for about six months. Quiet, and, more importantly, fast! You'll see a huge difference compared to the standard x40 drive -- I'd take it over a CPU upgrade any day.

I am also running an X31 with 7200RPM drive, and wow what a performance difference the machine is much more snappy faster to boot and faster to start programs etc. Best upgrade I have done in an long time.

Good luck with the experiment..............

Go with a Seagate drive (no I don't work for them). I just RMAed a Tanked Hitach 7200, and WDs are NOT long for this world! -I've had Toshibas die as well.

Then again, Seagate bough Maxtor, So.....yeah, that levels the playing field somewhat.
