OpeningT42 guide? need to reset video card

#1 Post by xcoldricex » Tue Sep 19, 2006 7:09 pm

Hey,

I'm getting a video POST error (one long two short beeps), started happening after i was using the computer and the video just went out on me for no apparent reason. I'm going to try to open up the computer and reseat the video card- is there a tutorial on opening up the t42p and where things are located anywhere? i can't seem to turn it up in a search. any help would be much appreciated! or at least if you could tell me where the video card is?

I'm afraid its not possible to 'reseat' the video card, if you open it or not. Its part of the motherboard.

Seek IBM support before proceeding if you can, I don't think it's going to be possible to do anything.

The GPU is a straight-solder onto the planar, it is near impossible to do it yourself as Bgradid has noted. However, you can follow the HMM and video tutorials if you want to open up your T42p for another reason, even if only to check that everything else is fine before sending it in (which I would recommend that you do and make note of everything you think is important to compare a la Before & After). :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
