ThinkPad 310E startup

#1 Post by Guglielmo » Wed Sep 20, 2006 5:19 am

Hi to all :D

I got from a friend a vintage ThinkPad 310E with Windows 95.
It works well with its minimal program configuration and it is quite fast relatively to its old processor.

Just a little problem: when I switch-on and the boot begins as far as the start up starts and the Windows icons appear on the screen, on the upper left corner is shown for few seconds a small Dialogue Box (actually just the title bar) on which is merely legible "Win..." being the shown box very reduced. What is this? Do I have to clean something in the startup process?

Another question please. The upper cover lid (with IBM logo) housing the screen is cracked close to hinges. Do you have some address where I may get a replacement cover lid?

Thanks for help!

step 1

step 1 is to get a bootable dos floppy, windows 98 can make one it calls it a startup disk. If you can get as far as a dos prompt using this disk(note you may need to make sure that booting from A drive is set as first option in bios), then your problem is in the windows install. Remove the boot disk and try to restart Try to tap the F8 key when it first starts inorder to get it to give you the option to start it in safe mode. Starting it in safe mode then exiting safe mode and restartig sometimes helps.
