I'am asking for help finding me a upgradable laptop.
One that I can upgrade my harddrive, opital drive, etc. as I want to.
I'am needing to know what to buy and where to buy it?
What's the best that I can get with $600.00?I've six hundred even;not a penny more and not a penny less!
My internet connection is T1.Planning to use the lappy as a desktop replacement.Replacing my eMachines desktop.
Seeking a lappy that I can put a real big harddrive it later. And a laptop that is even capable of having the cpu's upgraded.
I'd like to be able to put a vid card into eventually also!
That's Clint

Hello. First of all, no Thinkpad can have its graphics card upgraded, since all have it soldered into the motherboard.
As far as HD, you can replace the HD in any Thinkpad with no problem. Try to avoid the X40 and X41, as they use nonstandard drives (they use smaller factor drives).
The CPU can be upgraded in all but the X series. For example, a T23 could in principle be upgraded up to a Pentium 3 Mobile 1.2 GHz. I think that for the T4x series the maximum is a 2.1 Pentium M Dothan.
The T23 has better options to upgrade the optical drive than the T4x series, since the latter use ultraslim drives (of which are fewer examples).
Regarding RAM: T23 has a max of 1Gb, whereas T4x can take up to 2Gb.
Just because you have $600.00 it doesn't mean you must spend all of it. What will you be using your laptop for? I mean, what software applications will you be running? Unless you need video encoding, or to run the latest Photoshop at optimal speed, the T23 is a good option. If you want to run the latest games, the T23 won't cut it. And neither will most of the T4x Thinkpads.
Hopefully that helps.
