Does it include an X4 base? Does the battery hold a full charge? Does it still have the IBM recovery partition? Sounds like a decent deal overall, either way.

I would actually prefer not to have the base because I would not know where to put it!

I once saw an X40 with X4 base with a Buy-It-Now price of $300 plus ~$30 shipping on eBay. It was almost certainly a stolen unit. I checked that item several days later and the seller received a positive feedback from the buyer, so presumably the unit worked well.

Well, I guess I can make my first post on a good deal I got as well.....

I went to the new Goodwill that opened up down the street and picked up a Thinkpad I series 1400 for $4.99, it's missing some parts (keyboard, battery, hard drive + caddy), but apparently still works, as it does POST and looks for an operating system. I dunno how good a deal that was for sure, but at least I got a nice project.

Goodwill here almost never has computers and when they do, they are always overpriced. Last time I was there they wanted $40 for an old 486 or early Pentium box. If you can find out whether or not an i1200 keyboard would fit (they do look the same) I'd be willing to sell you the keyboard pulled from my old i1200 (or I'd be willing to haggle the i1400 off of ya).

I remember living in that reigon of the country about a year ago, I remember them mostly only having old hardware (meaning like 286's). Back then that's what I did for fun, rebuild old computers. Up here it's way different, it seems anything that looks like a 486 is an AMD K-6. The new goodwill was like old computer heaven, they had Pentium II-III level hardware for between $9-30 bux, and more fairly recent printers than one could shake a stick at. I was quite amazed, since they have another store downtown that hardly has anything except old ISA and PCI cards.

As for the keyboard, I doubt it'll fit the Thinkpad given that I've been cross-referencing part numbers and such all afternoon. And I'd rather hold onto it since I want to get something near on par with my desktop computer (PIII, 512MB of RAM, 80GB HDD, 1986 modded AT Desktop Chassis). It was way better than I got the 755CD for on E-bay ($40.00 + S&H, it worked, but needed a new power supply, and became much better once I replaced the battery with a Li-Ion, and put in a new keyboard).
