Problems with Z60 battery?

#1 Post by invictus » Fri Sep 22, 2006 3:09 pm

On my Z60m (2529-EAU) I think I've got a problem with my battery.

I mainly use the laptop plugged in with the AC adapter but yesterday I went and tried to power up with just the battery and it wouldn't power up. Initially I thought it was the power button, but when I plug in the AC adapter, it powers up and all's fine. When I'm logged in it shows the battery at 98% by the system tray, and I checked the battery stats and it appears to be fine. But when I unplug the AC adapter the laptop goes dead. I plug the AC adapter back in and power on the laptop with no problems. I go and try to cycle the battery via the Battery Gauge Reset (fully charge the battery, then fully discharge the battery, and fully recharge the battery) and the laptop reboots.

Could it be the battery or could it be something with the systemboard? I don't have a second battery to swap out, but I could get a new one to test (and it doesn't hurt to have a spare one anyway).

Any thoughts???

Sounds like a pooked battery microcontroller to me. I would try another battery for it just to make sure it isn't your Z60m. :)

It really shouldn't be *rebooting* when you go to do a gauge reset cycle; that, I think, suggests that there is something wrong with the logic controlles on the battery's side of things.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
