"Fan Error" when booting my R40

#1 Post by dimitrod » Sat Sep 23, 2006 1:58 pm

Hello,

When booting my R40 I occasionally get a "Fan Error", the computer beeps and shuts down. After few attempts it finally boots. I've noticed that when I get this error the fan doesn't start at all. When after few attempts I manage to boot successfully everything works as usual: the fan goes on from time to time and the CPU doesn't heat more than normal. So do you have any ideas of what could be the cause for this error?

Regards,
Darin

You need a new fan. I used to get this on my R40 too. The way I got around fan errors was to open the keyboard, spin the fan manually and power it on. I think it detects a fan error when it sends power to the fan and the fan doesn't move. I eventually just bought a new fan and installed it. The fan errors went away.
