Can I upgrade the CPU of a IBM Thinkpad 240X ?

Older ThinkPads.. from the 600, the 7xx, the iSeries, 300, 500, the Transnote and, of course, the 701

No, the CPU is soldered onto the mainboard.

James told us one time that you can install a 240x system board (a P3-500 CPU is the fastest you'll get) in a 240 case:

But bear in mind that the 240x models have a 100 Mhz system bus while the 240 models only have 66 Mhz, so the old memory from the 240's expansion slot might not work on the 240X board. The memory has to be PC100-compliant (and low-density of course, but that's the case for both systems).

That's enough from me for now.

James, you're the moderator of this forum and much more knowledgeable, can't you give some further comments on that operation? ;)
