Has anyone color profiled/calibrated their display?
Has anyone color profiled/calibrated their display?
I recently used a Color Vision Spyder and software to created custom monitor profiles for the built in panel and an external desktop LCD. I do a lot of Photoshop work on my portables and this has been a necessity for accurate output with custom profiles for paper/ink combinations as well.
My problem is that I cannot get the ATI software to leave the corrected profile unmodified after a suspend or restart. In fact I cannot reapply the color profile and have it take effect. The system shows my chosen profile as active, but it appears that the ATI software is automatically"adjusting" the default brightness and contrast which in turn fouls up the screen representation of the active profile.
Are there any ways around this that don't require new drivers or disabling any functionality of OpenGL. I run several CAD/CAE apps on this system as well and have been very happy with its performance to date...and no desire to screw it up for PhotoShop purposes.
I run PS on my Mac as well, I was just hoping to combine the functions and only travel with one system whenever possible.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

I just got my system today and have a stack of apps here to install. I also will installing color calibration. I have the Spyder2Pro. I don't think it is different than yours. I will update to see how it goes.
On a side note... I really wish that companies that tie registration to hardware profiles had a way to better transfer to a new computer. Apparently, I exceeded my number of installs for Adobe Creative Suite. I'm sure I can call and resolve this but there has to be a better way. For instance, I should be able to "unregister/disable" an installation on an old computer and then re-use that license on a new computer.

Just went through the calibration process. Everything seemed to work fine. At the end of the process, it asked me to name the profile. I named it "custom 092506" This profile is now stored in: c:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\COLOR\
The new profile is set as the default color profile and color managed apps like Photoshop will also automatically use this profile.
When I went to ProfileChooser, the correct profile was selected.
Now that the profile is setup, I went into Photoshop color management settings. I changed my Working Space RGB from sRGB (default) to Monitor RGB - Custom 092506.
Everything seems to stick when I restart applications or restart the PC.
I can't seem to find the problem you are experiencing. Perhaps it is an ATI driver issue? I'm also not driving an external monitor so have a simpler setup. Not sure if it matters, but my catalyst control center shows version 1.2.2275.5025

Thanks for the quick test and response ID.
Just to be sure, is your system running a FireGL v5200 and its drivers?
My software has put the profile in the correct location and applied it to the system, but there is a discernable difference between the screen brightness and contrast immediately after the application of the profile and after a restart.
It appears that the ATI controls are adjusting those 2 setpoints. I've disabled everything I can find that might be connected to it, but I still see the same "slight" differences.
It only concerns me as I have carefully profiled all of the ink/paper combinations that I use so I get as close from screen to print as I can. For now I do the sensitive stuff on my Mac, but I'd like to tie it all together on my T'Pad for travel purposes.
I'm guess I'll check out drivers, Catalyst and versions to make sure it's all current and start over to be certain that I've tried it all.

Hi,
I've encountered this problem before - it's definitely got to do with the Catalyst drivers.
The version which solves this (at least for me) would be Mobile Catalyst 6.9 (although the latest one, 6.10 should work fine).
It'll be good if you could also use the Windows Color Applet as a LUT loader for the profiles.
