Remote power on possibly via docking port connections

#1 Post by Ian P » Mon Sep 25, 2006 7:30 pm

Hi all and many thanks for having me here.....
I'm looking to be able to 'Power on' my T21 while it is housed in a remote location ( mounted beneth a locker on a boat) in order to protect it. It needs to be 'power on' rather than brought out of hibernation as it may be left unused for days even weeks with the external power source disconected. With this in mind it occaired to me that it may be possible to utilise connections on the Docking Port should they correspond to open contacts in parralelle to the power on button. Does anyone know if this is so and if so which contacts ? Or if this is not so , any suggestions as to how a remote power on may be achieved?

many thanks

Ian P.

The port replicator, FRU 02K8669, does have a "remote" power button which operates identically to the main power button above the T21's keyboard. It should be a simple (?) matter of opening up the port replicator and putting in a switch in parallel. I don't have, nor do I think is available, any schematics to say for sure which pins in the docking port connector are controlling the power button. This seems to be a simple hack and fairly cheap since eBay has dozens of these port replicators.
