#1 Post by Ashiaveli » Tue Sep 26, 2006 9:03 am

using a t42 and i haven't been able to update the bios since i got it (almost a year ago). Everytime i try i get a blue error screen with a lot of text saying something about incorrect irq.

i do everything as stated, full battery, no dock, connected to ac.

I have a T42 and I have applied several BIOS updates to it. The last BIOS update would not complete. I did not get a blue screen or anything, however on reboot it would just go back into Windows without the BIOS update being applied. It turns out I have a new drive that I bought for a spare, that I had put the original factory contents on using the Product Recovery Disc set. I was able to get the BIOS update to work fine from this drive. So evidently, some program, driver, or update in Windows was causing the problem on my original hard drive.

Really you probably do not need to update your BIOS. However if you really want to, I see two options.
1. Buy a USB floppy drive - when I bought mine, they were about $50 from IBM.
2. Buy a spare hard drive and do like I did above. You can get a decent 40GB 5200 RPM notebook drive for around $50. Larger, faster drives are more expensive. Check newegg.com.

thanks. I think i did actually update before and get the same issue as you now. I went into bios and there was all this stuff i never saw.

on a related note, i disabled speedstep because osx86 runs in slow mo when on battery but does this mean on windows i wont have the long battery i do cuz of my pentium m?

hi, you can try to update the bios

a) using a bootable cdrom (burn the bootable biosdisk floppyimage to a cd-r using nero (e.g.)
- or -
b) a bootable usb-stick
