Window Media Player failure

#1 Post by Stargate199 » Wed Sep 27, 2006 2:16 pm

I tired to install WMP 11 beta 2 on a computer the other day. When the install finished, I get an error that says that WMP did not install properly. I try to install again and get an error that says "This version of Windows Media Technology is not compatible with this version of windows." The computer is a P4 with XP. I am unable to rollback to WMP 10 because the same error message appears when the setup executable is launched. I would guess that there are files in the Windows folder that were corrupted during the install. Can any one help we with either being able to delete this files or send working ones to replace the corrupted ones. I tried system restore with no effect. I tried removing Windows Media Player from the program files folder and still didn't work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If you have a Windows XP install CD lying around somewhere, or you can borrow one, then you can do a (R)epair by booting up from the CD.

Here is an example with meeotch using this method: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=16849
