Adding a second hard drive? Need help!!!

I just purchased an 80 gig hd from a member here, and was curious as to how I can run my oem 40 gig and the 80 gig at the same time. I was told I would have to sacrifice my cd drive for the hard drive, which sucks. Is that the only way to do this? Also, does anyone have an installation guide for putting the 80 gig in, or any suggestions as to how to transfer my settings?

Please remove your keyboard and look inside your T machine.

If you don't wish to use the Ultra Bay (that is what I use to do what you want), then get an enclosure for the drive and hook it up via the USB interface. I believe there are kits to do this, but I am not certain.

The way which "sucks" works best for me (but then, that is just me) ... JD Hurst

You can buy an external USB housing, and run the second drive from the USB port. =20:581]USB 2.0 Hard Drive Enclosure, 2.5 inch.

You can clone your drive to transfer everything over. See Hard Drive FAQ. AFAIK, you can also use Rescue and Recovery to restore a backup to the other hard drive.

I think 80 gigs should be fine for my uses. I don't game, and don't store anything besides music and music recording programs. I'll have to look at the guides on how to install it and clone my drive.

Can I just put the hard drive into a desktop and then set up a lan? I have no problem re-installing windows, and I usually have to reinstall all my apps anyway (photoshop, dreamweaver, music programs, etc)

Would the easiest thing be to get the 2.5 case with usb, and hook that up so I can transfer the files? Or should i get the 2.5 to 3.5 adapter and set up a lan? Decisions decisions!

I shall do that then! Thanks for the info party people. Can't wait to have the extra 40 gig for my t42. 40 gigs just doesn't cut it, but now I will have 120, bwahaha.
