how critical are the 'critical updates' on Lenovo's site?
just curious how crucial the listed updates on Lenovo's website are? Anyone here do them? My laptop is fairly new, less than half a year old, is this something I need to be concerned with?

My rule of thumb is to read about the update carefully before assuming it would be beneficial. Each update is described quite accurately in a read me or other text file. Reading all the details is time well spent. Then, the second question I ask myself is: how is my computer performing now? If all is well, I will usually not update. This is from experience where I have simply trusted that the update would be beneficial only to have problems caused by the update that did not exist prior to. Countless hours of correcting "update induced problems" has caused me to be very careful before choosing to update.
Cheers....

Simply; if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Most of the "critical" updates are fairly important; less so for the "Recommended" and "Optional" updates. The best guide is to look at the bug fixes of each one, as Archer says, then decide if installing it will help fix any problems you might be having or prevent future ones versus the risk of wasting one hour reinstalling the old package because something with the new package didn't work on your system.
