Webcam not detected

Friends, I need your assistance in fixing this problem.

I am using Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 (uses USB2.0) with my ThinkPad T60 1953E4U. Earlier, the webcam used to work fine. Now the system does not detect the camera.

Appreciate your help!

Did you contact Logitech tech support? It might be a matter of resetting the webcam detection, but it may involve a tweak of the registry. Sometimes, just plugging a USB device into another USB port will do the trick. Otherwise, you could also try to uninstall the Logitech software then reinstall it. But ultimately Logitech has the answer...

I am yet to contact Logitech tech support as it's a weekend.

I have been trying on my own for some time. Went through the uninstall-install cycle for logitech software multiple times. Now just using their drivers, not any software.

Interestingly, problem seems to be not in software, but in USB connector. It looks like I got a faulty USB cord in the camera.
The camera was undetected for a day and today, just like a miracle :-), suddenly it was detected. I then pluged-in and out multiple times and figured out that there is something wrong with the USB connector of the Camera which is plugged into the USB port of my laptop.

When the camera is detected, Windows Device Manager shows all the details about the drivers and all. But when the camera is undetected, naturally, Device Manager does not identify this hardware and it's also not able to find the drivers for the camera.

Looking for some tips to fix the faulty USB connector.. if I can get over with the problem today then it's fine otherwise I will contact the tech support tomorrow.

Thanks for your response and suggestion.
Any advice on the connector problem?

Call Logitech and RMA the webcam. USB connectors are not fixable.

Hey Claudio, I bought the webcam from Amazon.com.

If I want to get a replacement, whom should I call - Amazon or Logitech?

I have the same one as you do. I found out my bsod was all because of Logitech's webcam and the old drivers. Some kind of conflict between the audio drivers crashed almost every computer it was connected to when u started up. I'm not sure if you experienced that problem or not but just something to look into if you replace the webcam with the same one.

I would RMA through amazon. I RMA'ed my dinovo set through logitech a while back, and the process was so slow.
Currently on Thinkpad T60 with Dinovo Bluetooth set.

In my case, it had problems in the detection, but it was not crashing my computer.

I have done RMA through Amazon.
Let me tell you, it's very smooth and fast.
It took 10 mins to do all the formality online from my amazon account.

And they have already dispatched the replacement.

Next time, if it gives me problem I will ask for refund. I did not realize that buying Logitech can backfire like this.

Hey Spike,

I got the replacement and now I have the blue screen (physical memory dump) each time I start up. This happens if I keep the webcam plugged in at the time of start up. If I un-plug it, I don't see the blue screen, but it generates some windows errors.

Did you find out how to fix this issue or you've sent it back.

I want to try for a day or two. See if I can find out some fix, otherwise this will go back and I will take my money back.

i have an older logitech camera on my T60p..
the kind that will follow the subject (assuming the subject is brighter than the surroundings) and it works just fine..

what all that means to you in this situation is unknown but my guess is some software conflict is going on..

does not logitech have a support forum..?

while this question is welcome here it is probably more appropriate in some ligitech forum where better more pertinent info might be forthcoming.. :)

Bill, Thanks for the advice. Appreciate your concern. Since, at least 2-3 people in our community have related problems, I am providing the fix that I found buried deep down on logitech support pages.

It took me hours to dig this information out. I wish it can help every member of our community who currently or in future face this problem.

This is the fix buried deep down in logitech support pages:

The following procedure will disable and prevent audio components from executing and should avoid the blue screen error.

1. Disconnect the camera from the USB port
2. Restart the computer until all startup items load
3. Go to "Start" and select "Run"
4. Type C:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech
5. Click "OK"
6. Locate and rename the “KAudp” folder to “KAudP.old”
7. Go to "Start" select "Run and type C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers
8. Locate and rename "Lvckap.sys" to "Lvckap.old"
9. Restart the computer
10. Once restarted, reconnect the camera into the USB port
11. Test camera operations to verify the workaround was successful.

Following the steps above in method 2 will disable the microphone built in to your Quick cam video device. This is a temporary workaround solution in order to bypass a Windows blue screen error and allow video functionality. Please check back periodically for software and drivers updates that may completely address this problem and allow full audio operations.
