Lost pwer to PC card slot after laptop dropped

#1 Post by jhferry » Sat Sep 30, 2006 6:43 pm

Well, my A31 was working well until I dropped it. I have a wireless card in the PC card slot and even after the drop it was working. I shut it down a few days later and now there is no power to either PC slots. I took the keyboard out and it looks like the PC slots are there own seperate add on but I cant help but wonder If its a coincidence. I only use those slots for the wireless card, what could I do to determine If its the board or the slots itself. This unit is out of warrenty so I was thinking maybe I should just get a usb key wireless card.

not sure if the A31 uses a sub assembly for the PC card slot assembly, but in older thinkpads it did..
usually there will be a plug that connects the PCcard slot assy to the system board..
this MIGHT have been shifted when you dropped your thinkpad and thus is not now making contact..

start here and get the hardware maintenance manual for your A31 by entering the model info..

this will bounce you to lenovo's site and you should find the HMM availalbe for download..

read it for more help..
