Best Mini PCI WIFI Card For X30?

#1 Post by ferrell » Mon Oct 02, 2006 6:52 pm

Hello,

I tired using the search for this information, but did not come up with what I wanted, so I apolizise if this has been addressed before...

I purchasd a used X30 off EBAY, and the mini-PCI slot is currently empty. Luckily, My X30 has the WIFI antennas already in place. I've read about the BIOS problem, so I am OK there.

What I'd really like to know is if there is a "best" WIFI card to get. I know that I want 802.11G, and 802.11A doesn't really matter.

By searching EBAY, I see that most of the cards sold are from Atheros, Intel and Broamcom, as well as several Dell-branded cards.

Is there any that works best with the X30, when it comes to reception, compatibility, range, etc...?

Thank You.
Steve

Atheros a/b/g, though the b/g version is just as good if you don't need 802.11a, and likely a bit cheaper.

I purchased a Intel 2915 ABG from Buy.com. Great card. I had a "1802" error message when first powering up. Used this guy's CD image, worked perfectly:

The Atheros cards are by far the best when it comes to signal range and reception.

Thanks guys! I ended up getting the Atheros AR5002X (a/b/g) on EBAY for about $22 shipped. I had to run the 1802 fix, but its working great now. Much better than the PCMICA card I was using previously!
