My x60s laptop is bent !

#1 Post by jamess » Tue Oct 03, 2006 1:25 pm

Hmm, strange thing occurred. I thought my work space was uneven, but when I tried my laptop on different desks, it was always the same... the right front corner is about 1-2 mm elevated from the surface. Whenever i place the x60s on a flat surface this right front end sticks up...

any ideas of what I should do? It wasn't as elevated when it was new (aug.2006), but this is now starting to irritate me, because i can feel the computer moving sometimes when typing.

What do you suggest i should do?! Any advice appreciated.

cheers

This is a known, easily corrected issue. Some X60s models were shipped with incorrect rubber "pads" on the bottom. Turn your computer over and you will notice there are two on the front that support the computer. One is slightly thicker than the other and that is what's causing the problem. It's so slight that when I turned mine over it was very hard to tell. Once they sent me new ones, everything was just fine.

Simply call tech support and they will sent out a kit of new rubber pads to install and then it will sit flat.

Cheers... :D

Thanks a lot! I was starting to get illusions that i can actually see it's bent :) Was about to force it back to it's "supposed" shape.

Thanks again!

Hey jamess,

Did replacing the rubber mats work? My X60 seems to have gotten wobbly after I took off the keyboard.

Actually there were no rubber pads available in whole of Europe's IBM service depots. They said that they don't even have the part number (article) rubber pads available at all. However, they did try completely changing the lower part of the body, but just before replacing it, they put the laptop together again in the original housing and it worked. It's now just as it should be. It seems that the housing was not bent, but rather it was originally put together in a bad way, something like that.

Hope this helped...

cheers

Thanks. I in the US so I'll try to see if they have the rubber pads and see if that works.

yes, that would be the best. here they had to order the whole lower part of the housing, took the pads of, replaced them - didn't help however... the rest- i already mentioned.

cheers
