CSS/Password Manager : "Biometric Operation Timed Out&q

#1 Post by medlint » Tue Oct 03, 2006 2:28 pm

I am using my laptop's (ThinkPad T43) built-in fingerprint reader. In my configuration, I installed IBM's Client Security Solution software (v. 7.0) to enable the password manager that enters my username and password on certain sites with the swipe of my finger on the reader. When I go to any site that I have a username and password for, the software recognizes the page and prompts me to swipe my finger. That behavior still works perfectly. When I boot, MS Internet Explorer is in my Startup folder, and NetSuite (a web-based CRM) is the default homepage. When MSIE initiates, my NetSuite login page appears and the fingerprint software prompts me to swipe. If I don't swipe my finger within two minutes of the swipe prompt, the fingerprint software reports this message: "Cannot logon to this passport. Biometric operation timed out." It was after I received this message over two weeks ago that I became unable to logon to NetSuite from my laptop.

I cannot log in to my NetSuite account on only one machine. I can logon from anywhere except my personal laptop.

Conclusion: My NetSuite account is NOT timed out (I can access it from other machines), something wacky has occurred on my laptop. I have no issue accessing any other site with the fingerprint reader and Passport Manager.

Effort Exerted: I originally deleted all my cookies, cache and temporary Internet files...no resolution. I have contacted IBM twice inquiring about the behavior of their Client Security and Password Manager software packages. They guided me through uninstalling the Client Security software. After a reboot, I still could not get into NetSuite. They concluded that their software had nothing to do with my issue, but I am not convinced of that. I think their software did "something" after I exceeded my two minute grace period. Even after I uninstalled the software, whatever it did a week ago was not undone. I have since reinstalled the Client Security Solution package so I could continue using the Password Manager and fingerprint reader.

Where am I now: I am able to use NetSuite from any computer except my laptop. I would love to be able to use NetSuite on my laptop again.

What really happens when the biometric operation times out?

I'm back in!

I am now able to sign in to NetSuite on my laptop again.
I wish I knew exactly what happened, but I don't.

Here are some factors:
- I went on vacation and stopped signing onto NetSuite from anywhere for a week.
- Part of my company's ISP backbone went down and came back up while I was on vacation.

I still don't know what to avoid in the future or what to do to fix it the next time it happens.
