System Update 2.0 not working

#1 Post by reltor » Wed Oct 04, 2006 12:46 am

Hello All,

I upgraded to Sytem update from software installer and after the install when I ran it and get an error saying

"an error occurred while gathering user information"

It won't go past 8% then I get this error.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? Software installer wasn't working either, and this is when I found and installed system update.

Thanks

Some things you might check:

You are logged on as Administrator.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections tab > LAN Settings... > make sure box is UNCHECKED for Proxy server.

Check your firewall settings.

If you are using a router with a modem, make sure your settings are correct. When I first got my DSL modem and then bought a router to go with it, I could connect to the internet and use the browser, but I could not get Windows Update to complete. The trick was to set the dsl modem up in bridged connection mode {as opposed to UHP mode (DHCP/PPPoE/NAT)}, and set the router to use PPPoE.

I am using a relatively new modem/wireless router. I was wondering about whether it might be causing this. I shut off the wireless connection and get the same error.

I am assuming this step in updating requires an internet connection?

Another thing, I reinstalled software update and it works with the wireless router.

Thanks

let me take a wild guess... those of you who are having the problem have some version of ie7 installed?

there are other threads documenting this problem :) hopefully either it won't be a problem with the ie7 final release or lenovo will fix it from their end.

I've been waiting for that news before I upgrade. I don't want to break what I have - not that I use IE all that much.
