spontaneous freeze
hey there! I just received a new thinkpad (ok... used thinkpad) that spontaneously freezes at different points during the boot sequence. The first time I ever tryed to boot it up it made it into windows and since then its been going close to but not quite into win. It also does not always freeze in the same spot. I've tried a few of the standard things (changin HD, using a heat sink compound) but I'm out of ideas at this point. I suppose the processor could be toast, but if you have any other ideas please help!!!

the back of the laptop says type 2621 that may not be what you're looking for... if not how would I figure that out... the specs are 500 Mhz celeron 128 mb etc... and it was released in 2000
also, I did reset the ram and the problem still occurs.
thanks again! and thanks for the welcome!

I think that narrows it down to the 1400 or 1500, according to my search at IBM. Is there any other characters after the "2621"? Something along the lines of "2621-XXX"?. And is there a serial number (S/N) on the back side? That can also be used to look up your system. Any markings (letters/numbers) up on/near the keyboard or display? The final alternative is to access the system BIOS by holding down the F1 key while you turn the power on. That should lead you into the BIOS screens. That is based upon what I know for some of the other IBM laptops.LittleRabbit wrote:type 2621
(edit: Okay, I found the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the 1400/1500 (2621) systems. It is available at:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mo ... 9n8606.pdf
You will need to have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer in order to open/read the file. This file will be very useful for troubleshooting problems and helping you identify the various parts of the system.)
