Z60m Line-in port (there isn't one)

#1 Post by nickok » Fri Oct 06, 2006 8:33 am

I'd like to use my Z60m to digitise some of my vinyl record albums taking the 'rec-out' signal from my stereo amp. I tried this with a desktop PC in the past and it worked fine. Problem is the Z60m has no line-in port, only mic. Not sure if any ThinkPads (or other laptops) have line-in?

Apart from getting an expensive docking station, does anyone know of any gadget which will enable a stereo line-in input.

I have seen references to the Griffin iMic which is an external analog/digital converter which connects via USB. Does anyone have any experience of this or any other solution for using their ThinkPad to capture vinyl?

Thanks for any ideas.

Just use the mic in - it's stereo.

I did try using the Mic input recording with Audacity and got a lot of distortion suggesting the signal was too strong. I had read that Mic would not have the correct impedance for an amplified input. I'll have another go and check recording level is as low as possible.

Err... that cable says it's mono. :?

Is there no option on the Z to change the Mic to a Line-in in software? My LG Laptop has multi-audio outs and ins that can be changed from line level to mic level and stuff using a program that came with it.
760ED All the way.

FEEL THE BURN! From the bottom of that particular laptop... right in the bawsack! eek

Oops!

Sorry, didn't catch that. Ok, try this one: Belkin® 6-Ft. 3.5mm Mini Stereo Dubbing Cord

That would be useful, I looked though the Soundmax settings but I couldn't find anything that would do that. I would have thought a multimedia spec machine should be able to support line-in.

I'm going to try using an external (USB) soundcard.
