T42 Drive Upgrade Help Needed

#1 Post by lpenner » Mon Oct 09, 2006 12:16 pm

Hello-

So, Im confused. Nothing new really.

I have come into a corporate T42, 2378-FVU. I want to upgrade the drive to a 7200 rpm 80 or 100GB. IBM support says that All that is avaialable from Lenovo in a 7200 rpm is a 60GB. Seems I would be better off buying from someone other than Lenovo.

I shop at newegg with good results.

Can someone help me with the specs for a 80 or 100GB 7200 rpm drive that will be an error free replacement?

Also, from what I've read, consensus ssems to favor the Hitachi over other brands. True?

Thanks in advance for any help.
Regards,
Larry

Newegg is also a good source.

Here is a link for the 7K100.

Thanks for the input so far. I checked with Brent Presley. He doesn't have anything for sale that fills the need.

I DID search some more old threads using a different search string. A number of members really like the 7K100 100GB.

I search Newegg and couldn't find it there. So, I took the advice posted and avoided the potentially troubled 80GB and ordered a 60 GB from New egg. When it arrives I will be sending it and the T42 to EasyServ. They will repair/replace the left touchpad button and will put a new image on the new drive.

This looks like a good solution. We'll see. I'll post the results.

Larry

Here's the update.

The T42 is back from EZ Serve. The keyboard has been replaced. The 60GB drive has been re-imaged and all appears to be acceptable.
