Hi all,
What's the difference between the 46L4697 and 62P4092 fans? (I have the former; there are a total of 3 kinds of fans listed for A3x's: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-39574)
I saw a post before by JHEM (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 47&start=1) recommending the higher power 62P4092 fan from the 2GHz A31(p)'s, for faster CPUs.
Has anyone tried both and compared power and noise? Searching the web I find that both are rated 5V, 0.18A. So first I am wondering how the 62.. can be more powerful if the rating is the same (or is it more powerful only than the A30 fan?). Second, is it more noisy?
Thanks,
Milos

ThinkPad A31 2652-M3U' (P4m 2.5GHz, 2GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon 7500/32MB, HTS 7k100)
I see nobody answered, but I thought I would add a piece of information I hadn't seen earlier.
At least some A31's even with as low as a 1.8 GHz processor seem to have the "bigger" A31 fan (part 62P4092) straight from factory.
That is, I noticed that my A31 (2652-M3U) thinkpad, which came new a few years ago with a 1.8 GHz P4m processor, has in fact this bigger fan (part 62P4092), in spite of the fact that the HMM says it should have the smaller 46L... fan. (Actually the fan spindle has a sticker that says "46P3142" and in parentheses "FRU 62P4092", I assume I'm interpreting this correctly..)
It was previously mentioned (see links in above post) that only 2.0 GHz models and up have the bigger fan. True, I did have the MB replaced under warranty once, but I doubt they would have changed the fan.. and the new MB part no. is the same as the old, so I don't know why anyone would change only the fan.
Thought I'd write it down for those considering fan upgrades.. you may already have it.
