What to do With My Newly Acquired Monitor

#1 Post by AlphaKilo470 » Mon Oct 09, 2006 9:23 pm

Well, the other day a good friend of mine let me have his old 21" Trinitron HP monitor (A4033A, manufactured by Sony) and the picture on it is quite nice but unfortunatley, I have no desk space for the thing. I'd use the monitor with my desktop computer but I already have a 19" Samsung flat CRT that I purchased new just two years ago here. Before I find someone else to take this monitor or before I put it in storage, I was wondering if anyone here had any creative ideas.

Make room for it on the desk, and make it the secondary display and then you get 19"+21" display real estate.

Check it for any high-capacity Lithium Ion batteries, maybe :) ?

How about donate it to a local school or charity? A monitor like that would probably be useful to a CAD/CAM class in high school or college.

I haven't used a CRT at home for the last 5 or 6 years. Once you get used to the fact that you don't have a 40+ pound monster sitting on your desk, taking up at least 3 square feet, the extra real estate is very useful. Of course the cats lose a nice place to get warm, but they got fur coats anyway...

I just did a Google search and learned that the max resolution supported by the A4033A monitor is only 1280 x 1024, which is surprisingly low for a 21" CRT monitor. I sold a 1600x1200 Panasonic 21" monitor (Panasync S21) for $40 on Craigslist several months ago. This one may sell for $20 at most.

unfortunately a 19" crt weighs quite a bit more than 40 lbs. Im sure they are all different, but my IBM crt with dual display abilities weighs around 70 lbs. Its not that old either as it has dual dvi inputs. I have no idea what the resolution is on it though. This sounds like one of those time where you do something really nice for somebody or some organization and give it away. I know you guys(meaning mods) spend quite a bit of time on here donating time to help folks like ME with our problems.
