A20M and Combo WLan Card Question

#1 Post by Harbinger » Tue Oct 10, 2006 10:57 am

I'm in the process of upgrading my A20M and want to add a mini-PCI WLAN b/g-modem-10/100 combo card to replace my modem/LAN card. I know that some later IBM models check in the BIOS to see if the combo card is a recognized type; if not, the card won't work.

Does the A20M have that BIOS limitation? If not, could someone recommend a good combo card to use? I don't want to lose either modem or wired LAN, but will need both b/g wireless capability. I know I can use a PC card and do that now; I want to go internal for a cleaner installation.

Thanks!

No... it dosn't have a lockout (as far as I know) because the A20m was before anybody thought of putting antennas in the thing and saying. Hey!, lets put internal wi-fi in. I put a wifi card in mine with antennas.

Thanks for the info. Now, can you (or anyone) tell me if a mini-pci card exists that does 10/100 LAN, 56K modem, and 802.11b/g wireless? I've seen cards that do two of the functions but not all three.

To the best of my knowledge, no. I have only seen cards that either have Wi-Fi or modem/network. I dumped the modem out of mine in favor of Wifi because I already have a PCMCIA network card in it.
