X60 bluetooth
X60 bluetooth
Hi!
I have an X60 thinkpad (1707-AN2).
There is no bluetooth in it.
Is it possible to upgrade it with bluetooth module?
What is the part number of the needed IBM part?
Thanks in advance!

The bluetooth parts appear to be in the following parts list. It probably is not real easy to install. It's not considered a Customer Replaceable Item.
12.1inch LCD service parts - ThinkPad X60, X60s

It seems there is no BT antenna in the lcd's.SkiBunny wrote:You may have an issue with the bluetooth antenna because i dont know that it's built-in to your laptop.
There is the cable from the main unit, and on this cable there is a BDC-2 bluetooth module. No other parts needed.
So I have to replace the LCD cable and get a BDC-2.
(maybe I need a new clear plate with bluetooth icon).
Upgrade X60s with Bluetooth
Can anybody tell me where to buy the necessary pieces of hardware for the Bluetooth upgrade? I have x60s and I see that you can buy the BT Card itself for about $60-70 but the 91P6971, the LCD cable with BT, I can`t find anywhere... One place had it for $150 but this is just reduculous. Do I have to have it?

Newegg sells USB Bluetooth adapters for as little as $10.
Those are external.FredFromNYC wrote:Newegg sells USB Bluetooth adapters for as little as $10.
I for one will probably be willing to pay quite a bit for internal bluetooth.
There are many reasons for it.
An external one easily gets lost, and reduces the portability of the whole notebook if moved around often when using bluetooth - with the added risk of bending the bluetooth adapter (thus damaging the laptop)...
Also not that handy to pick up the bluetooth adapter when you need it compared to just switch it on - also on slim bags that I use theres no good place to put it. It will just lay on top of the notebook giving uneaven preassure on the notebook and scratch the notebook.
(sure there are pcmcia cards and adapters that will fit that slot but if you use that as well?)
Some things might seem trivial but really, in the end I'm quite willing to pay a bit extra just to get rid of all the downsides with external bluetooth.
Sure does depend on how you use your notebook but for my uses...
I'm considering giving it a shot. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty just doesn't have any clue as to how hard it would be.
Also it is kinda expensive and for a lot less you probably get a better adapter (I'm guessing but I'd imagine you could get a better device with a better antenna and I'd guess that the internal isn't 2.0).
