Are we sure these are SO-DIMMs? It's not mentioned in the description and I can't find any info on the part number (R31P9839).

And FYI, their inventory systems shows there are currently 4 in stock.

Brent, take off the R in front (probably for refurbished) for the part number. They are listed under the notebook accessories as well so thats a pretty good indication.

Add x to the cart and it will tell you. Then work the number down until it allows you to add that many.

4 or more and it tells you they are not available. 3 or less and you are good to go (for now).

I bought 2 for my X31 before I posted this. I have never bought their certified used memory but I suspect it will be covered by their 7 day return policy and probably at least 30 days warranty. In my experience memory is either bad or good so testing thoroughly when I receive it is what I plan to do.

They don't list the accessories specifically that I can see though in the warranty page:

Just ordered 1GB for my T42.....In my experience, the ram will be bad when you get it. I will run memtest for a couple of days just to be sure.

Any thoughts on where it comes from? Maybe systems that have other problems and were scrapped?

Great prices. IBM is usually very good about honoring warranties on newly purchased certified used items.

Only allows you to have 1 in your cart now. My guess is they have a semi-realtime inventory system and we are looking at the last stick or two.

Mine were all cancelled too... the following day. I wonder, who is the Point of Sale & Inventory Management solution provider to IBM   ?! Maybe they should find an off-shore provider that's a bit more reliable than their own in-house "solution"? And no, this isn't anywhere near the 1st time they've done this to an order I've placed. I should be mad, but it's kinda funny. Really. I mean, if their own product doesn't work in-house where they have near full control and oversight, how can they expect others to buy it and use it to run an inventory-sensitive business?

Call cust. supp. and let them know that you expect IBM, the authority in computer systems, to honor accepted orders. They certainly have new memory sticks that they can substitute!

The same thing happened when they had hard drives at a ridiculously low prices. They just get overwhelmed with orders.

2100?

#29 Post by seaweedsl » Sat Oct 14, 2006 8:11 am

Question: I understand that the PC2100 should work in an R51, but will pull the speed down to 266 from 333?

Is that right? Is this a noticable hit? Not worth the tradeoff of doubling my RAM?

Buying an R51 soon and already investigating upgrades!

PC2100 will work in R51.

I doubt any human can detect a slow down in performance when using PC2100 vs. PC2700.

More RAM will very likely outweigh any performance hit due to memory speeed.
