Help to upgrade my T40 with bluetooth

#1 Post by koden » Thu Oct 12, 2006 4:25 am

I have got access to a T43 modem with bluetooth FRU: 39T0026
When i replace my ordinary T40 modem with this T43 modem, and connect the bluetooth connection to my AUX antenna on my wireless card, then i get an error.

Is it because i'm doing something thats not possible or am I doing it wrong??

That's a nice module, but don't think it works on a T40. I had a friend try it on a T41p and he could not get it to work. I believe it's a BlueTooth IV module and the T40 can work with one up to BlueTooth III.

I put the BlueTooth III module in my T40 and it works fine.

Of course you have to install the IBM software then enable with Fn-F5. See other posts and let us know if you get it to work.

Good luck.

Okay...thanks.
Can I see if it's a IV module??

When i connect the T43 module and start the pc, it comes with error as the first.
So it's proberly a version IV and not working.

It probably won't work, but to be sure, update your BIOS to the latest version.

This is not hard to figure out.

koden has a 39T0026, which is clearly a BT IV w/modem (for ThinkPad R52, R60, R60e, T43, T43p, T60, T60p, X32, X41, X41 Tablet, X60, X60s, Z60m, Z60t, Z61e, Z61m, Z61p, Z61t) search this page for that part number;

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-59170

As I said, this module does not work in T40's or T41's, as far as I have seen (it is for T43's, etc.)

BT II or BT III modules work in all T40's and T41's (and T42's), I have a BTIII in my T40.

See this page for info on both modules, do a search for "Blue";

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... T40%7C2373

With the right module, all is good.

And to do it right, don't forget buying a new clear plates for the front and back of the LCD. The LED's are already there and will work, you just need the right clear plates. Do a forum search for more info.

Many have done this upgrade and have written about it on this board.

Good luck!!!

Also, the IBM software and driver is the same package for both the BT II and BT III adapter, see this link;

39T0061 is just a CDC modem card - NO BlueTooth.

You can find it on this link;

http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-53665

Keep looking...

i'm looking to upgrade to bluetooth in my t41, and would like to go with bluetooth III if it will handle it. what i'm wondering is why does the hardware maintenence manual say that part number 91P7319 is the bluetooth III modem/bt daughter card, but everywhere else, that part number seems to be a bluetooth IV card, which won't work in my t41. i'm getting confused by this and just want to know what the correct part number for the 56k/bluetooth III daughter card is....

The part number you list is correct. It is a BT III with modem and it will work. The card will read BMDC200b on it.

I have one installed in my T40 and it works fine.

It's long time ago that I have posted this...
maybe there is something new or bether to buy today?

I'm a bit confused....

Underlocker wruítes thát I can search after other threads where people has upgraded.
I have tried this, but I get a lot that have nothing with BT upgrade to do..
Maybe my english and search word are not good enough..

I can see in underlockers link that i need FRU 91P7319

But what does he meen writing:
"And to do it right, don't forget buying a new clear plates for the front and back of the LCD. The LED's are already there and will work, you just need the right clear plates. Do a forum search for more info. "

I have the bluetooth icon in my display. What is plates?

I have made more search and have found out tha´t there is 2 BT cards.
91P7319 and 91P7315. The last one is half price. What's the diff.?

I already have installed a card for wireless...
Atheros 802.11g Wireless LAN MiniPCI Adapter

But i'm not sure how to connect the 2 cards right..

I surpose that my t40 has 2 antenna.
Do i plug BT card to the one and wireless to the other..?
But will the wireless not loose some effect??

maybe there are better cards today than the one I have/am looking at ??
