x31, what temps are normal?
x31, what temps are normal?
my t42 at 600mhz runs at about 40C, however my x31 runs at about 60C when at 600mhz.
is this right or too hot?

do you run NHC? i'm running at these voltages:
6x - 0.748v
8x - 0.828v
10x - 0.956v
12x - 1.066v
14x - 1.212v
16x - 1..276v
its now running at 52C @ 600mhz, better, not the best though.
im in the UK, so its not like the ambient tempreture is too high, besides, my T42 is stick around 40C, no reason why the X31 shouldnt as well..

Right now I'm running on "Max battery" setting (but on AC power), which locks the CPU to 600 MHz. About 21C ambient temperature, and CHC is showing 43C for the CPU and 40C for the hard disk, which is fairly typical.skanky wrote:do you run NHC? i'm running at these voltages:

My CHC is set for 0.764V at 6x and 1.324V at 16x (other multipliers really don't matter anyway); on my 1.6 GHz unit, those were the lowest stable voltages.
im using dymanic switching, but even at 600mhz, its still hovering around the 50C mark..tomh009 wrote:Right now I'm running on "Max battery" setting (but on AC power), which locks the CPU to 600 MHz. That really is too hot ... my wife's X31 and my friend's X32 both run about the same as mine, too. Is the 50C at idle? Does it ever drop down?skanky wrote:im using dymanic switching, but even at 600mhz, its still hovering around the 50C mark..tomh009 wrote:Right now I'm running on "Max battery" setting (but on AC power), which locks the CPU to 600 MHz. Does it really affects if you're running a Clean install of XP (Retail disk) compared to the Thinkpad Preinstalled Windows?
I've Windows XP SP2, NHC 2.0, and the TPFan control in my T41p.
CPu temps hovers around 46C-50C @ 600MHz with 0.716V.
In Max. Performance mode, the temp rise to 52C, eventually can be lowered to 48C.
The thing here is that I replaced almost immediately the stock thermal compound on the CPU/GPU and also deleted all the content of the hard drive to make a custom install of XP.
Guess the GPU FireGL T2 video card is the culprit for having that higher temps

I have the X31 listed below, using Notebook Hardware Control 2.0, on AC my CPU temp ranges in the mid 50's to mid 60's under ordinary use. Has been that way forwever.

I am typically in the 40C range (using CHC 1.9), but I usually run in Max Battery mode. Which mode do you run in? And did you adjust the CPU voltages?mpcook wrote:I have the X31 listed below, using Notebook Hardware Control 2.0, on AC my CPU temp ranges in the mid 50's to mid 60's under ordinary use. I'm using RightMark CPU Clock Utility Version 2.1 with the following FID and VID:
Profile: Power Saving (599 Mhz)
6.0x - 0.908V
8.0x - 1.052V
9.0x - 1.116V
10.0x - 1.196V
11.0x - 1.276V
12.0x - 1.340V
13.0x - 1.420V
14.0x - 1.484V
I'm using Mobile Monitor (Version 0.3.1.0) to measure the temperature. The system is running at around 52°C

I am almost always on AC. Right now I am web browsing, at 600MHz, and 54C, pretty typical for me. I have adjusted no voltages, everything is "stock", except I have a 7200rpm drive and 1gig ram.tomh009 wrote:I am typically in the 40C range (using CHC 1.9), but I usually run in Max Battery mode. OK, that makes sense. You could probably drop 5-10C by adjusting the voltages (typical values are in this thread) if you would prefer to run cooler.mpcook wrote:I am almost always on AC. The advantages of running cooler are lower power consumption, increased component life (a cool disk is a happy disk) and a reduction of third-degree burns on skin contact!
