Compact Flash wi-fi card/power management issue.
Compact Flash wi-fi card/power management issue.
I recently re-installed W2K on my Transnote, which uses a SanDisk Connect-Plus card in the compact flash slot for wifi. Since the re-install, Windows blue-screens with an ACPI error whenever it tries to go into standby or shut-down if the card is still active. I've played with the card's power management settings, and none of them stop the behavior. Is anyone else using this card and seeing the problem? Is anyone using a different card and not seeing this, because cards are cheap enoough nowadays to make switching to another card an option. I've downloaded the latest drivers from SanDisk to no avail...
I don't have a Transnote, but I was wondering if you have installed the Power Management driver, Intel SpeedStep applet, and Windows Install Supplements from IBM?

I did a clean install and used all the latest drivers - which might be the problem. Before, when the card worked, I had crappy old out-of-date drivers.
Unfortunately, removing and re-installing the card with the old drivers hasn't helped, and the only way to clear out all of the new IBM drivers and 53 W2K updates I applied would be to go through yet another format and re-install. I'd rather just spend $20 on a working compact flash card, or find a patch or hack that would make this one work.
Just a follow-up: A friend has suggested that the problem might be that the CF slot isn't managed using APM/ACPI like the pc card slot is, and so the error is because Windows can't shut down the slot itself. While researching other card options, I've noticed that 2 brands claiming to be W2K compatible specifically mention using the card with the pc card adapter, rather than the CF slot; lends a bit of validity to the idea. I'd always thought this was mentioned because most laptops don't have CF slots, but there might be more to it.
