ATI powerplay on AC doesn't work after resume from standby

#1 Post by SlyD » Sun Oct 15, 2006 12:20 pm

Hi!

Well, I have a R60 - but as its GPU and ATI drivers are identical to T60, I post this in the forum with more traffic!
:)

The Problem: Powerplay works on Battery AND after a reboot when on AC (! Yes it works, see GPU Temps below) , but it does NOT work properly when resuming from standby or suspend to disk mode!

After booting Windows on AC, X1400 clock is 128MHz (reported by Catalyst Control Center (CCC)). Then I put the machine in standby and wake it up again and - its 392MHz and can't be set lower! (Yes, I can adjust the settings in the CCC but this does not change anything)

This affects GPU temps quite a lot:
X1400 @ 128MHz : 39 to 44°C.
X1400 @ 392MHz: 47 to 50°C
when idle and Fan is running manually at 2700RPM!

I know these temps are already nice for a X1400, but they could be better for the R60 as you can see above --> 40°C... 8)

Anyone knows how to solve this issue with powerplay?

Btw. I use the original IBM Drivers!
They don't seem to work together with NHC 2 - I tried it, but I could not enable Powerplay there (grayed out)...

I do NOT have an external Monitor attached and NO video or any 3D app is running!

Greetings,
SlyD

Are you sure that the speeds are correct (tho your temperatures are higher)? Try installing another program that can read clockspeeds (ati tray tools, sandra or powerstrip). I have noticed that the catalyst control centre is slow or faulty in its reading of the clockspeeds.

And in the power manager, what happens if you change the the power scheme to battery performance?

No I'm not sure if the speed measurements are correct.

The Problem is: It seems like NHC and ATI Tool both don't work with the IBM Drivers? I can't read out the frequencies with both of them and I can not enable Powerplay in NHC! (the checkbox is grayed out)
I already had some other drivers from ATI where this worked, but they produced bad graphics errors when on 2D!

The Powermanager - hmm I have to test this a bit more.

Yesterday it worked for a couple of hours after resuming from Standby! Powerplay was set to 128MHz and the temps were low! I don't know why, but today it did not work and Powerplay switched to 392MHz again with high GPU temps. Everything was fine again after a reboot.

Aren't there any registry settings that could affect this?
