Questions for thinkpad backpack owners

I'm interested in getting a thinkpad backpack, since backpack is best for longer walking, cycling, bus, backpack style travelling.

I have a few questions for existing owners:
- How much extra stuff such as books... can you fit inside besides laptop, powerbrick, mouse, cables, PCMCIA cards...

I can fit a lot of extra stuff in existing bag. How does it compare to that one? I also bought a leather carry bag which is classy, light, has very good protection but you can't really fit anything beyond a large notebook, small notebook, writing utensils and couple of papers inside.

- Does it have front and rear padding on the laptop compartment?

- How does it go along with a 15" laptop (currently have A21p 4cm thick)?

- How thick does it measure when fully loaded from the side?

- Is it comfortable, any comments....

Well I have the IBM Thinkpad Backpack Carrying Case (made by Targus) I've also owned the 'Organiser'.

The backpack is very good, I was a bit concerned about the padding as it's got no defense from where my abck would be. It does have padding for comfort though, which keeps the pressure off it.

The backpack is waterproof, but the weave of the material means that it sucks it up, or lets it through slightly, so I keep all my documents inside plastic folders. The laptop is protected by a cardboard/heavy plastic pouch, that leaves the top (side) of the laptop exposed, it is secured with a velcro strap. The bottom is very well cushioned against impact, the sides are quite vulnerable. But I have not experienced any effects.

I think it could fit your 15'' it fits my T41p fine, with enough room for a sleeve as well I think.

The Organiser is a great case, but the strap wears at the side zipper so it broke itself. Which is a design flaw. Fully loaded (and you can get a LOT of stuff in it, it is really heavy and unless it's only going to be carried between short points, it's useless).

However, the laptop compartment is built like a tank all armour everywhere but the top. Which is pretty protected anyway. Very good case, it's got balance issues though, it likes to tilt and then fall over.

This thing is HUGE at 2743cu in, lots of pockets and organizer, comfy, and comes with a lifetime warranty. I am using it with my Z61p just fine.

I'm getting the backpack and 800 DPI travel size IBM mouse tomorrow.

Will post pics, I also have Thinkpad Premier Leather Carry case, I can do a mini review of both.

I have a High Sierra backpack and its awesome. It holds my t42p just fine, it's about as big a laptop you can put back there i believe. It fits nice with the built in sleeve for laptops. There is plenty of padding against the back as well. Not only that but the rain fly stores in the bottom of the back which is directly underneath the laptop carrying area so there is padding on the bottom as well. Sorry for not having pictures of it though and I dont know the model or anything as its not posted on it. But it is definitely built tough for backpacking. Suspension straps, lashing points, and it has this smaller pocket on the front and the inside is almost lined with fleece or something very soft. Not sure exactly what its for, but its nice to stow away a cd or camera and not get it all scrathed up. Hope this helps. Oh I got this at Marshall's or TJ MAXX whatever you got, oh maybe you dont have either over in the UK, but try ebay.
