failing fingerprint reader
failing fingerprint reader
Has anyone started experiencing problems with their fingerprint reader? Recently, I have been unable to login to my T43 because the software says I swiped my finger "too fast" even when I am obviously sliding it super-slowmotion. Whichever way I try to swipe it, the thing will always say "too fast" or "wrong angle" or something. I'd end up having to login with a password.
Sometimes a cold boot will do the trick. Other times, the problem will still be there. My T43 is a little over a year old, what gives?

I've experienced problems, when continuing from hibernate. But it isn't the same problem as you. When I swipe my finger, it shows the green mark, indicating it was successful, but afterwars says, I don't have any fingerprints stored. I then tried to put in my password, but is says I haven't stored a password. If I then hibernate again, and resumes it works fine.

Re: failing fingerprint reader
Sometimes, the FPR is sensitive to RF waves. I have seen some that read the best under fluorescents as well as having trouble due to interference from a cell phone, radio, or wireless router nearby.johnlusf wrote:Has anyone started experiencing problems with their fingerprint reader? Does this happen no matter what location you use your T43 at?

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Thanks. I will have to try it at a different location and get back to you. I've coldbooted twice in the same location and the fingerprint reader has failed both times. If it has gone bad, do you think the warranty will cover it?Sometimes, the FPR is sensitive to RF waves. Re: failing fingerprint reader
If it has gone bad to the point where it won't recognize most of your fingerprint swipes no matter where you are, then IBM/Lenovo should replace it under warranty if you send it it. Depends if you have on-site or not, either a tech will come to look at it or you will have to send the whole thing, or just the palmrest and FPR, off to them...most likely, it will be the whole Thinkpad.johnlusf wrote: I've coldbooted twice in the same location and the fingerprint reader has failed both times. I read somewhere that on very dry days, the fingerprint reader may not read properly. I have experienced this. What I do is lick my finger before swiping it and it works more times than not. Yucky I know, but my thinkpad is mine and only mine alone...
I sometimes also think it knows I am in a public place, and fellow passengers on the train are watching, so it wont read on purpose to annoy me. Then again, it could also be the brighter surroundings??!!
