This is a recent update to most Thinkpads that have the TPM chip; it first appeared on the Driver Matrix, then System Update 2 as one of the few "Recommended" updates, then on the latest version of Software Installer as "Recommended" as well.

If you need it, grab either of those update programs (as they will serve you well later on with less work), download the package, and let it install then reboot your Thinkpad.

Additionally, you can get it from the driver matrix/support site here for T43/ps and R52s running Windows XP and Windows 2000.

HTH :)

True, for me too this componetn always shows as a needed update even after manual installation.
Probably just a bug of software update and nothing to worry about.
T440s OK so far.
T420s NVIDIA graphics. Nice, then MB failure.
T400s Workhorse. two of'em, both faulty display with vertical stripes.
T43 °very nice° - MB reflown and dead, two of'em.
T42 15°, dead onboard wireless.
T40, dead memory slot, stolen from me
T30, stolen from me
TP600 dead

It actually installs fine if you use the driver matrix or software installer(update) programs. You can check this by looking at the windows device manager to confirm the driver presence.

Software Installer always reports it as not installed, but this as macros pointed out is probably a bug with the package and the package manager ( DLA 5.2 used to have this bug too - maybe still does?)
