Link doesn´t work - here the whole story:
(link in previous post fixed...)

Lenovo today announced that the ThinkPad T, X, R and Z series notebooks would be receiving a refresh in the form of a Core 2 Duo processor being offered on select models, 802.11n wireless cards and hard drive data encryption with the simple swipe of a finger.

Core 2 Duo ThinkPad Update

While Lenovo has not indicated any specific date for the availability to place an order for a Core 2 Duo based ThinkPad, it is expected sometime this week, or the end of October at the latest. The ThinkPad T60, ThinkPad Z61m, ThinkPad Z61t, ThinkPad X60 and ThinkPad R60 would be the notebooks receiving this processor refresh. Word from our contacts at Lenovo is that the T60 series and X60 series would likely be the first to have availability as right now they are testing the first production Core 2 Duo equipped T60 and X60 notebooks at company headquarters. The Core 2 Duo was released by Intel at the end of August and features 64-bit capability and about 10% performance increase over the previous Core Duo offering.

802.11n ThinkPad Update

Select notebooks in the T, R, X and Z Series will now offer integrated 802.11n wireless LAN technology. The standard for 802.11n is not yet finalized, but Lenovo will base compatability on the Draft Release, Version 1.0. The 802.11n standard will allow for wireless connections with throughput speeds of up to 270MBps when paired with an 802.11n router.

ThinkPad Security Updates

Lenovo has worked with Utimaco to integrate and offer SafeGuard Easy 4.30, a software program that encrypts information on the hard drive with the single swipe of a fingerprint reader on select ThinkPad notebooks. Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks are the first to offer this rock-solid, layered security solution, which currently provides one of the highest levels of data protection available on mobile PCs.

Lenovo has also expanded its security portfolio by offering a more integrated way for companies to centrally manage fingerprint templates and other authentication credentials and policies. Lenovo will offer Softex’s OmniPass software for PC authentication management including fingerprints and passwords on select Lenovo PCs.

I am waiting for a T61p, then a T62. :D

After they add 64-bit support, then they will continue to increase the number of cores, possibly reaching 4 cores in the future sometime. Probably two Core 2 Duo based prints shrunk down with a smaller feature size on the same die and one L2 cache per pair; but that is all in the far future.

I'll try to stop a delayed order (Placed 33 days ago) and wait until the new core 2 duo release... I've been waiting more than a month, think, one month more will be worthy, Lenovo's owes me the replacement for the delay...

The Core 2 is most certainly worth the wait, especially since it is launching at the same price points as the old Core Duo. Personally, I would like to see a Z61t with a Core 2 Duo.

New x60(s) core 2 duo.

#7 Post by rexy » Mon Oct 16, 2006 11:48 pm

Sounds like great news.

Anyone have any idea/info if the new T.P. x60(s) will be pre-loaded
with Vista?

If they will have an Express card slot?

And if they will increase the resolution?

Thanks.

Indeed, I saw early this morning in the Lenovo's web page the Core 2 Duo announcement, but in the configuration options you dont't find such CPUs... There seems to be a lack of coordination among developing and sales units... no good signals...

There is always a lack of communication between the R&D engineers and the Sales people. That is probably the most common issue to affect most business today.

Salesperson:"The product will be ready in 6 months, regardless of the fact that it just broke Alpha, will cure cancer, end all wars, and do your laundry."

Customer:" WOW....Sign me up!"

Engineer[Later]:" You told the customer WHAT? And, more importantly, WHEN?! We just got it to run stable a few days ago!"

The scene reminded me of our beloved 60's comics, as a matter of fact, some cartoons on these subject could be part of the Dummies book (not so dummies judging by its possible list of chapters.) The book "A Different Shade of Blue" (The Thinkpad brand development history) by my friend Dr. Gerry Purdy and Deborah Dell brings some cartoons made by Rich Tennant at the beginning of each chapter.

The vendor: "Of course it's a portable Sir, look, here's the handle..."

I've ordered a z61p with draft 'n' MIMO networking (and a core 2)..

Is that b/g/n? Or maybe (holds breath!) a/b/g/n?

Excellent! I'll still take 'a' over 'n' in most environments due to the b/g/n frequency band pollution ... 8)
