Go to this site, log in and see what happens!

EDIT: After logging in, ignore the "Products" section, which lists only several preconfigured T and X series notebooks. Scroll down and look for the "Special offers" section. There are three columns in this section. Click on the "Learn more" link in the leftmost column.

Yes, the year you graduated doesn't matter, an alumnus is an alumnus.

It's always best to check with any alumni associations you may belong to for deals on Thinkpads, or check with the school's store.

ThinkPad 365

#64 Post by schen » Tue Jun 26, 2007 12:53 am

I ran across an interesting little tidbit (especially for you guys that are into collecting older TPs), while reading about Robert Hanssen. I recently watched the movie Breach and was motivated to do a little research on the spy that was supposedly responsible for the worse espionage disaster in American history. At least one of the article I read claims that he did most of his personal computing work (as in letters to the KGB, etc.) on an IBM ThinkPad 365E! :?
Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505

I love to see TP's in space on the shuttle. I went slightly nuts thinking I saw my 760 on the shuttle. Only when I was able to confirm they used them, did I become sane again. ;)

A friend of mine works in flight control for Nasa and they have more than one up in space. Here last count was three on the ISS on of them is an A22m (my friend made note because she is going to buy one of Nasa's left overs).

Side note here; man it would be cool to say my laptop has been in space.

I'm rewatching the 1997 movie "Contact" and 35 minutes 30 seconds into the movie, Jodie Foster is seen using a Thinkpad.

I was watching "Tiger Team" on court TV last night and I noticed that use Lenovo Thinkpads for their computers. I didn't catch the exact model but they were widescreen units.

There's a ThinkPad in the great South Korean movie Oldboy by Park Chan-wook. In one scene you can see a detail shot of the keyboard with the TrackPoint.

A lot of people will see NASA pictures of the space shuttle and ISS and wonder why they have 8 year old computers instead of the latest and greatest and chock it up to NASA being behind the times or budget constraints. Its actually because NASA requires a lengthy time for computer parts to be "radiation hardened" to be used as official equipment. I forget the exact time but its somewhere around 5-6 years. But astronauts are allowed to bring personal computers for personal use, you often see Dells up there (and I thought astronauts had to be smart).

I was watching 2010 movie Green Zone and in the end of the movie, I noticed that the Wall Street Journal correspondent Lawrie Dayne (Amy Ryan) uses a Thinkpad when she's checking her incoming mail from main character, Roy Miller (Matt Damon). I assumed she uses the 15" XGA, 4:3 screen ratio, R60 model with the old IBM logo. CMIIW.

There's another scene that shows the other people in her office also use Thinkpads.
Current:
IBM ThinkPad R51e
IBM ThinkPad X22
Past:
IBM ThinkPad T43

Just got Netflix and they stream The Office (US) on it and I'm on the second episode of season 2 (never seen any newer episodes, I like to watch sitcoms in order) and I see that they switched from Dell to IBM ThinkCentres. I dunno if they stick with IBM throughout the series or show any ThinkPads, but I thought it was noteworthy enough to put in this thread, the monitors/CPUs are very prominent throughout each episode.

*edit
about 5 episodes later i noticed they switched to gateway, i'll keep ya posted! i wonder why they change computers so much, hopefully they go back to the good kind in the future ;)

**edit
now they have HP computers! when will this madness end ?

Another small bump. On Spike's Ultimate Warrior series I've seen newer ThinkPads being used. Given the nature of the data crunching for that show(pitting two groups of famous combatants together in a fictional simulated battle and seeing who would win; the one I saw featured the IRA versus Taliban fighters), I'm suspecting the ones I've seen are W500/W510s. Pretty neat find. 8)

On the Today show a few days ago they had a segment about how Meredith Viera isn't very good with technology, so they showed her how to put pictures on a laptop from a camera, edit them, etc all using a ThinkPad prominently shown on the screen. Pretty cool.

On the Bravo TV series Flipping Out, Jeff Lewis uses a ThinkPad on season 3 (It's a T60 widescreen). On the Food Network TV series Barefoot Contessa, Ina Garten (and her husband Jeffrey) uses a ThinkPad (a 15" T61) on some episodes that aired between 2008 and 2009. Some episodes are "Chicken All The Time", "Say Cheese", "The Magic Factor", "Cocktail Hour", "Food With Love", "Thanksgiving Countdown", "Steak and Sides", and "Oven Rules".

I saw that too and I even Tweeted about it. That was really cool!

During the Packers game tonight there was a commercial advertising some kinda NFL thing on the internet, and they were using a ThinkPad! Looked like a T series from a few years ago. Pretty cool, and very prominent on the screen.

This past saturday there was a football game, MN Vikings vs Seattle Seahawks. One of the commercials was for some NFL thing where you can watch the game online, and the guy in the ad was sitting on the couch watching the game on his T60, complete with lenovo logo on screen bezel. I also see them a lot on shows on the TNT channel, like law and order or NCIS.

Lenovo doesn't put out a whole lot of tv commercials do they. I don't think I have seen any, actually.

Nope, not an X60. Looks like a 15" T4x of some sort. Nice to see the Flexview get some screen time. :)

I am watching Home Alone 3 at the moment (the Dutch TV companies always broadcast these movies in the Christmas period) and in the beginning of the movie, where the bad boys disable the telephone line, the guy in the car was using a ThinkPad.

It was a older generation Thinkpad, i guess something like 7xx or 6x series

In Paprika (animated) the boss has a Thinkpad together with Sapper's Tizio lamp on his desk (about 10 minutes into the film). The cop also uses a Thinkpad.

Bumping up this topic with another sighting... it took me a while to identify this. Burn Notice, Season 4, Episode 13. Not to provide spoilers, but the main character, Michael Westen, uses what looks like a 15.4" T61 to do some spy work. I thought it was a T500 at first, but the USB port placement is different.

There's a documentary on Netflix about Google... Thinkpads GALORE! Of course, that's not too surprising. :) Also, in "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" (Swedish? German? version w/English subtitles) on Netflix there's a TP in the opening scene.
