Yeah, because you know, even having all the hardware encryption, security measures, fingerprint readers, and robust builds you can put in a laptop....it can still be OMG BUGGED if it is owned by Lenovo and, therefore, make the State Deparment unhappy. One would think they would be fore more security.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Weirder things have happened. But that's one of the reasons why this particular fact is ironic. For example, I was under the impression that people in China weren't entitled to too much privacy from the government. If this is true (and things haven't changed lately), it doesn't make sense for a company owned by the government to promote a technology which would allow such a degree of data privacy. Some encryption products produced in the U.S., for example, can't be exported to certain countries.

Yeah, I thought about that too. It is ironic though that a company owned by a communist government would produce something designed to safeguard the data of capitalist users.
Really, though, I talked to Austin Powers the other day and told me that Dr. Evil is in on it. Yeah, Baby!
Apparently the Chinese plan to setup secret spyware which will transmit encrypted information embedded in rogue IP packets at specific intervals. They are stealing our porn, people!
Perhaps I should start a poll asking whether I should change my forum name to CrazyConspiracyTheorist.

Seriously, never mind..., the world today neither is red or blue or black or white, the idea of an evil world fighting against a good one is out... who may say what is good or evil? who can rule this and imposse its ideas over the rest of the people? the important thing is to let live in peace and respect the people's freedom to choice... Welcome to the encryption on Thinkpads... and Chinese surely know what they're doing... (by the way talking about comunism nowadays seems a little odd to me... but I respect your opinion...)

I never said that Communist China was evil and Capitalist U.S.A. was all good, far from my intent. What I am saying is that U.S.A. shouldn't trust China completely, and that China shouldn't trust U.S.A. completely either. There have been plenty of cases of spionage in the recent years from both sides. Remember the downed U.S. spy plane just a few years back? That's why I think it is ironic that a company owned at least in part by China's government is going to enable U.S. corporate interests to safeguard their data. You must admit it is strange.
Also, let's not forget that as recently as 20 years ago Sadam Husein had a great working relationship with the U.S. government. History is a harsh teacher, but people (specially politicians) never learn.

That's what I like of this Forum, highly cultured and free discussion... (A little off topic in this case, never mind) your point is clear, however I think the Lenovo's management is aware that without certain securities they are jeopardizing a huge market in the western countries, markets and money don't know ideologic frontiers... in the final result we surely will get better Thinkpads, I've no doubt...
I was composing a long list of "evils" peretrated by the Chinese but I guess that's a wast of time and the moderator probably wouldn't approve of the venue anyway. Moral Relativism reigns supreme.rleo25 wrote:Seriously, never mind..., the world today neither is red or blue or black or white, the idea of an evil world fighting against a good one is out... who may say what is good or evil? who can rule this and imposse its ideas over the rest of the people? the important thing is to let live in peace and respect the people's freedom to choice...
