Question for all T43p owners

#1 Post by unimorpheus » Wed Oct 18, 2006 7:19 pm

With the recent experience I had attempting to clone a T43p hard drive without success I was wondering how widespread this problem is. To all T43p users, were you able to clone your hard drive and if so with what software and setting if other than default for that software? I am trying to determine if this is a hardware specific issue or just something with my machine in particular. Thanks for your help.

Dunno if this helps but I just cloned my 60 gig to a 120 gig in my T43 using Ghost 2003 booting from a floppy. The new drive wouldn't boot initially, just a cursor at the top left indefinately. So I booted the XP disk and got into the recovery console and did a fixmbr and then it worked, so far so good.

Lenovo products use a custom MBR to support the Diagnostic Utility. For Ghost you need to use the -IB (Image Boot Sector) option when creating the image to preserve the MBR.

Well it appears the solution was to use the 2nd harddrive adapter in the ultrabay slot to image the drive. I don't know why the image will not take with a USB enclosure as with the T43 but in any case the T43p requires the 2nd drive adapter to work.
