Install XP on 600X

#1 Post by jsteele » Thu Aug 26, 2004 6:08 pm

I have a both a 560X and a 600X both Windows 2000 Pro that I use as sort of general household machines. (I keep the 560X because I can't bring myself to part with it :-)

I'm curious if
  • Can install Windows XP Pro on either or both of these machines
Anything special I need to watch out for
Will either of theses machines perform better under XP Pro than under 2000 Pro
Thanks

I wouldn't install XP on the 560X. Its CPU might be too slow. However on your 600X it will run flawlesly. Most of the necessary drivers are already included in Windows XP, others can be downloaded from here (including the XP installation supplement files). Also don't forget to update the BIOS, because early versions didn't support XP.

Thanks G-Man. I think I'll have at the 600X and see if I get any improvement over 2000 Pro.

You might want to increase some RAM. I only have 128MB ram and it is quite slow. An extra 128MB will probably speed things up.
God Bless you.
