Delete Partition

#1 Post by 7ocean » Sat Oct 21, 2006 1:31 am

My T60 comes with Win XP Home Edition and I want to install the Win XP Pro Edition on it from the beginning. Can I just delete the IBM Preloaded partition and leave the hidden IBM Service partition unaffected after I create the new partition(s)? Please advise.

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums :)

You can, to an extent, just make sure not to mess with the MBR. The best way to protect the service partition before partitioning is to set it to "Secure" in the BIOS and then partition the rest of the HDD with that in mind. I would still recommend that you make the RnR disk set as well, just in case something goes wrong.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

One more question

Thanks a lot, christopher_wolf. :D
One more question I want to ask:
After I had installed the Win XP Pro Edition and all the software I needed on my T60, I would like to back up all the partitions included the IBM Service partition with Acronis Ture Image. May I restore my system on a new bought HDD afterward with the RnR function unaffected. :?: Please advise.
Thank you very much :D
