T41 15" UXGA - are all Flexview?

#1 Post by sjh953 » Sun Oct 22, 2006 12:23 am

On one of the T42 threads, I read that ALL T42 15" UXGA screens were Flexview. Is this also true of the T41 and T43's? I don't want to get a non-Flexview screen by mistake.

I'm a photographer, and I've read in various forums that the Flexview is the only way to go for accurate color, etc. I plan on profiling the screen with a Gretag Eye-One so, hopefully, it will match my desktop monitor. I'd also like to feel confident using the T43/42/41 with Photoshop.

Thanks.

Xmm, interesting point.
Unfortunately cannot help regarding Flexview, just wondering..
I'm an avid amateur photographer myself, obviously quite sensitive to monitor calibration issues. I have my desktop CRT calibrated as well by Eye-One but never considered doing that for my regular (non-Flexview) T43 LCD. Somehow my belief is no matter how you calibrate laptop screen, it just physically cannot approach the degree of precision and accuracy delivered by a good CRTs, even Flexview laptop screens.
This is why I never considered any serious image editing on my thinkpad (and addmittedly Thinkpad weren't designed for that kind of tasks), leaving photoshop jobs to my desktop....(leaving aside the issue ot processing large image files having 40GB, relatively slow (5400) HDD...)

However, I would be curious to hear otherwise experiences in this regard...
14.1" T43 2668-6ZU machine.
ATI x300, 1GB RAM, 40 GB HDD, all the connectivity (except of Bluetooth), DVD/CD-WR Combo...
Still excited about this great machine...

I believe if you download the tabook and tawbook, you can verify each model you are considering to see if it comes with Flexview. See FAQ for information on downloading the above.

alexzabr -

I was hoping I'd find another photographer on this forum. Here's a link that may interest you: http://www.drycreekphoto.com/Learn/moni ... _tools.htm.

I see no reason why you couldn't calibrate your T43. It will do the best it can, with the result depending on the screen itself. I'm sure it will be better than not calibrating.

My reason for posing the original question is because I've seen so many threads in the photo forums saying that laptop screens are basically unusable for critical image editing. These photogs use the laptops for culling images, web browsing, etc. -- then revert to their desktops for anything "important". I'm hoping the Flexview screen is roughly equal the Samsung 204T desktop lcd I use with no problems.

GomJabbar -

I've downloaded the tabook, and it seems that all references to the 15" UXGA say that they use Flexview screens. It's just that there are so many variations of these model numbers, with their cryptic letters (2373-HTU) that I needed confirmation from people who know these systems that there aren't non-Flexview versions lurking out there.

Thanks.
