TV Output Problem using T30

#1 Post by storspett » Fri Aug 27, 2004 3:42 am

I everyone,
I am trying to connect my TP T30 to a PAL TV but I only get B&W display. I have tried many different ways to get around it. One thing remains:

When I try to set up the TV in the Presentation director it lets me choose PAL but when saving the settings it has returned to NTSC. This suggests that it actually never switches to PAL. Image

Any clues to get around this?

I have searched this forum and there are a lot of similar questions but I have not found any solution.

sincerely

Are you using a S-Video to Scart cable? When one of the pins becomes damaged or indented, the display can revert to black and white. Take a look at the SCART plug and examine the pins. Also check out this site.

According to this site, it looks like your scart cable is the bad boy.

Thanks for your reply!
I do plug in the S-Video connector to SCART but I still believe it isn't the SCART cable
1) It's new
2) I still cannot set the display at PAL, it reverts to NTSC whenever I try.

I believe 2) is the problem.

I also have the latest drivers.

If you are using an adapter such as a SCART to connect your computer to the TV make sure it is capable of supporting your video mode. SCART connectors only supports composite video and therefore if you are using S-Video you will only be able to receive a black and white picture. If you are using S-Video connector you may wish to use the S-Video to SCART pro (pro-SCART-6)
I think since you are using simple scart cable (not this Scart Pro) your TP thinks it's an NTSC, and therefore automatically switches from PAL to NTSC.

Try your TP on a TV that has direct S-Video in, and see if it works.

I see your point. I'll try it on another TV.

probably not this simple. but on my TVs AV setting if i hit the av button once it puts the thinkpad desktop up with black and white. hit it again and it goes colour.

i have seen this on a few tv AVs. not sure why they do it but it seems to be an intential feature of TV AVs.
