Ultrabay HDD warm swap problem after HDD removal - pls help.

#1 Post by Milos » Sun Oct 22, 2006 8:38 pm

Hi all,

My A31, running Win XP Pro, does not come out of sleep mode when I remove a 2nd HDD in the ultrabay adapter from the machine (I only tried the left, Ultrabay 2000 slot). The HDD comes on when it tries to wake up, but I hear nothing and the screen stays black -- perhaps it is confused and looking for the removed drive rather than the boot drive to resume.

Starting with nothing in the ultrabay 2000 after bootup, I was able to insert a 2nd HDD with the Ultrabay adapter as a "warm swap" into the machine, while it's in sleep mode (i.e. suspend to RAM), and it comes out of sleep fine, with the device properly recognized.

The problem above happens regardless of whether I do the USB remove hardware icon thing first, or if I just pop the ultrabay switch which causes the laptop to go to sleep (so you can replace the ultrabay device).

Anyone have this problem and know how to solve it?

Thanks,

Milos

The way it's supposed to work: When you pull the eject handle - it's suppose to suspend - you then eject the drive. Pop the new device in and the system then resumes and detects the device. Make sure you have the following:

-Latest EZ Eject Utility
-Latest BIOS
-Latest Embedded Controller.
-Delete and recreate the supsend/hibernation to diskfile

If this doesn't work - then there is another issue beyond software or a corrupt hibernation file.

Also - check to see if the device light is blinking or solid. If it's blinking theres a device problem and the system will not resume properly. Eject the device and it should work.
