Bluetooth devices icon?

#1 Post by allan » Mon Oct 23, 2006 10:54 am

Hi all,
I just got an R60 last week, (to replace my stolen R40) and so far it seems great. But I'm having some difficulties with a bluetooth GPS logger.
The control panel shows a BT Config icon, but NOT a BT Devices icon which I have on my PC and I'm wondering if that is usual.

By working via My BT places I can get the logger recognised but it seems like a workaround.

Thanks for any comments,
Allan

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums. :)

The Thinkpads have their own IBM/WIDCOMM drivers for their bluetooth hardware. You can install the microsoft drivers if you want and the icon will become smaller and change a little; I don't recommend the MS BT drivers because they are pretty much bare bone and, should you need a special service, you have to set up and map the virtual COM port youself. The IBM BT drivers have a slightly different Bluetooth icon for both the Control Panel and the Tray as opposed to the Microsoft one. If that is the difference you are seeing.

I usually go through BT places and set it up that way as it seems that is the easiest way. Is it still not working that way? :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Thanks - it's good to have a Thinkpad again!

OK, going through My BT Places gives me the icon with the two green arrows, and confirms that the Logger is connected on COM8, and the logger itself has a light that confirms it is connected. So it looks like the logger app is the culprit.

All the help I've found has started with accessing via the BT Devices in the Control Panel, so I wondered that the fact that the Devices icon is not there meant something else was missing.

I'll keep on with it.

Allan.

Hi Christopher,
Is this process really doable? And how hard is it? Could you explain it a little bit more, or direct me to any resource or something. As you know, I was very frusrated with the IBM BT software lately. My BT mouse was already working with MS drivers. If there is any way I can get my BT headset (Motorola H300) work as well, I'll just use MS drivers.
Thanks.
