Loud power brick?

#1 Post by MaloventEvil » Mon Oct 23, 2006 3:27 pm

Hey guys, my girlfriend just got a 14" T60p, and i noticed that her power brick doesn't make noise!!! She has a Revision 5 and it's silent, but my revision 3 is loud! Anyone else having the same problem?

Wow, I have owned a lot of Thinkpads. I used to work at a company that used IBM exclusively (over 500 users probably 200 or so Thinkpads) and I have never seen a power brick that makes "noise". What kind of noise does it make? I am pretty sure there are no moving parts in there, so, um, wow.

If it's noisy, have it replaced :)

You happen to be lucky enough to hear either the transformer or capacitors switching it seems :)

There are some variances, but usually it is a very quiet thing that is only audible in a room or when you put your ear close to the brick. :)

I wonder what the differences in the Revisions are to cause such a difference.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

AC producing loud \"sounds\" means something is loose inside. Please contact IBM/Lenovo support and tell them to replace another AC for you.

Try using a power supply with a "ground" connection (3 holes) and see if your problem persists. If it does, please get it replaced.
