LCD Swap to UXGA into R51

#1 Post by klhi » Tue Oct 24, 2006 12:03 pm

My LCD screen on my R51 (1836-B9U with an SXGA 15in) is broken, and I'm thinking of replacing it myself. While I was looking into this, I had the idea of upgrading the current LCD to a higher resolution unit, perhaps the 15in 1600x1200 UXGA LCD that comes with some T-series and R-series "p" models. I'm thinking that it would probably fit in the enclosure since there are supposedly some R-series models that come with the UXGA display, but I'm not sure. If it did fit, would there be any issues with the video card or connector since the resolution of the display is different from the factory original?

thanks,
klhi

I am not familiar with R51, but do know that some models can use a QXGA screen, which is even higher resolution than UXGA. I saw two 15" QXGA displays several weeks ago on eBay with a Buy-It-Now price of $300 each. If your model can drive a QXGA display, I would get that instead of UXGA.
