I have used Internet Explorer 7 and I'm currently using FF2. I'm not really into browser features but I like FF2 since I've been using FF for two years now.

There are bound to be many Firefox vs. IE topics if you search the forum. There is currently an IE7 topic in the windows section.
You had the option to make a poll when you created this post.

I installed IE7 recently too, very impressed by it. It looks to offer a much better experience for the end-user. However Firefox 2.0 really hits it out the park, in built spell checking is nifty, search suggestions are pretty useful.
I like what they've done with Add-Ons and also the Search plugins. Undo close tab is a god send, and session restore's pretty useful. I have it defaulting to restore, but that means if I want it to be normal I have to close all the windows manually and then hit Home.
I'm not a fan of the graphical improvements, but I run my icons so small I can barely see them anyway. Need to get Arvid to do another Qute theme, with extra glitz though.

I've read just a little bit that says FF2 may have some with Yahoo e-mail. Anyone else heard anything about this?

My only real gripe with 2.0 vs 1.5 is the relocation of the X to close tabs. Previously, I could open up a new tab for each forum section, keeping my mouse at the top right of the browser. Each time I clicked, the next tab would pop up, but the X remained in the same place.
Now the X is located within each tab, and because of that I'm not upgrading.

I noticed the "X" to close the tab right away. It will take a little getting used to, but not a major issue for me. The search bar results open in a new window instead of a new tab, I don't like that at all. The built-in spell checker is nice, but I've already found words where there is no correction for a misspelling. I've installed U.S. Dictionary 2.0.0.6 with no apparent improvement for the misspelled words I had.
Firefox still has an issue with the WMV plugin. For some WMV files, it asks what action to take, even though the action is listed in the Tools menu. Since WMV is a Microsoft product, it's not entirely unexpected, but Windows Media Player 6.4, the serious video person's favorite, works fine in Firefox.
You really need the Searchbar Autosizer 1.1.2.
Overall, I like it. I've been a Firefox user for some time, I see no reason to change.

I just installed Firefox 2.0 today and noticed that the CSS 7.0 Password Manager extension is not compatible since it is limited to the 1.5 version. I made some changes to the extension and it is now working with Firefox 2.0. If anybody is interested I can post the procedure for the version upgrade.

There's a way to revert this behavior back to 1.5. I don't remember what it is, but you could find it.

I looked it up since someone on my forum asked, too.
Type about:config in the address bar, press enter, and set browser.tabs.closeButtons to 3.

Thanks for the posting as it was really helpful. (-and dangerously interesting with all those other config settings!)

Excellent tip on the browser tab "X". Also, by changing the value of "browser.search.openintab" from false to true, search results open in a new tab instead of a new window.
Liking Firefox 2.0 more and more.

Well, good to see that the IE team is
happy about Firefox 2.
On the more serious side, Firefox probably got the IE team's jobs back after Microsoft cut the original IE6 dev team.

Until your favorite extension is updated you can go to tools > options > main and set the startup choice to "Show my windows and tabs from last time". Poor man's session manager.

Could you post this please - I have not upgraded Mozilla but I do have CSS 7 and it never triggers when I open an authentication page in Firefox. I am hoping your solution might help.
Thanks a lot

Make sure to make a backup file of the xpi file and edit that one. Locate the file tvtpwm_moz_xpi.xpi in c:\program files\lenovo\client security solution and open in with winzip (I use 7-Zip).
Edit the file and look for <em:maxVersion>1.5+</em:maxVersion>
Change 1.5+ to 2.0 and save it.
Add the edited file to the Firefox extensions and voilà, it should work. If you have some problems just let me know.

i found an extension called "tab mix plus" it has all the different extensions i used to use (double click to reload tab, session manager etc etc) all rolled into one ff2.0 compatible extension.

Wasn't worth starting a new topic,but...
Does anyone know how to eliminate the small preview icon that appears on a tab if the window contains an image? The mouse gets very jumpy on the T23, even if only 1 window with an image is opened.

Thanks a lot for the info,
PDX, did the password manager work for you before you went to Firefox 2.0? I don't actually have 2.0 but I can't get password manager to activate within Firefox, I will edit the file and take a look.
One more question - when you mention 'Add the edited file to the Firefox extensions and voilà, it should work' - can you give me some more detail, which extension, the xpi? I am wondering if my issue is that this extension didnt get created when I originally install CSS 7 - it seems that there is a link between Password Manager and Firefox which is missing.
Thanks again

you'll want one of these, not both.
Code: Select all
/* Don't display icons in tabs */
.tabbrowser-tabs .tab-icon { display: none; }
/* Alternatively, kill only default tabbrowser icons (no site icon) */
.tabbrowser-tabs *|tab:not([image]) .tab-icon { display: none; }
that's for 1.5, but i would guess it should work for 2.0 as well. that goes in userChrome.css in your profiles dir.

Thanks atomMan...but I've reached the

stage. I have never messed with the chrome file before, and it seems like I've got to learn yet another way to code. I wonder why they can't just have this stuff in about:config?
